ATHLETE RECOGNITION 24-25

Outstanding Athlete Awards
 

This annual award is presented to the highest performing athletes in each age group. Beginning with the 2008-2009 season, the awards are based on performance at a single age.

The award is based solely on the swimming achievements of the athletes from September 1 to August 31. The selection of the 2024-2025 Outstanding Athletes used the following criteria:

 

  • Based on Power Points of the athlete's top four swims (LCM or SCY)

  • Swimmers may only use a LCM or SCY version of the an event discipline and distance (example, an individual may not use 200 LCM Breaststroke and 200 SCY breaststroke).

  • Total Points are the sum of the following Power Points

    • Swim 1 x 0.4

    • Swim 2 x 0.3

    • Swim 3 x 0.2

    • Swim 4 x 0.1

PVS Open Water Swim Athlete of the Year
 

The awards for Open and 15-18 years olds will be at the PVS Championships and the 13-14, 11-12, and 10 and under categories will be awarded at the PVS 14 and U Championships.
 

How do you earn one of these awards? By participating at Lake Montclair Swim Festival, Eastern Zones, or US OWS Nationals. Details below:
 

*Be a member of a PVS swim team

  • Priority #1: Athletes that qualified and participated in Open Water Nationals. Highest Rank in the 10 K and 5K races will fill the respective age group categories: 13-14, 15-18, “Open.” Open swimmers must participate under a PVS club to be considered. Longest distance has priority over shorter distance in the same OWS meet.

  • ·Priority #2: Athletes that qualified and participated in Open Water Jr. Nationals. Highest Rank in the 7.5 K and 5K races will fill the respective age group categories: 13-14, 15-18. Longest distance has priority over shorter distance in the same OWS meet.

  • Priority #3: Athletes that placed in the top 15 at Eastern Zones in the 5K but did not participate at the National Level.

  • Priority #4: Athletes competed in a local PVS Sanctioned Open Water Swim event. Athletes that have not yet had representation in their age group may be considered for an award. Highest place athlete will have priority. Longest distance has priority over shorter distance in the same OWS meet.
